Comprising three Israeli composers and performers, Tafillalt is a group that explores the roots of traditional Hebrew music and prayer. Although their instrumentation is primarily acoustic and traditional (including stringed instruments and hand percussion), Tafillalt filter their respect for the past through a modern sensibility that reflects contemporary jazz, folk, and chamber music. The group's material will be of particular interest to scholars of Jewish religion and mysticism since it draws on both ancient and modern Hebrew poetry from the Middle East, North Africa, and Israel.
